Save your tooth with a

PORCELAIN CROWN

Porcelain Crown

A crown has been a standard dental solution when a damaged, cracked, or badly decayed tooth needs to be completely covered in order to be reliably restored.

Anytime you can save a tooth from being pulled you can gain long term benefits which makes the relatively expensive procedure well worth it. The more teeth missing in your mouth, the greater your long term health can be compromised.

A crown is a protective, functional dental restoration that encapsulates the tooth, or in some cases a dental implant. But it also can improve the appearance of your teeth. Crowns are often used in aesthetic dentistry to achieve a desired cosmetic result, specifically in the way a person’s smile looks.

Porcelain Crown Versus Other Crowns

Porcelain fused to metal crowns (PFM’s) are very common and have a well documented history of long lasting durability. This type of crown has a metal core with a porcelain veneer fused to it so it looks like a natural tooth.

One disadvantage is a dark line (the metal) that can be visible at the crowns edge where it meets the gum line.

With modern technology, it is now possible to create all porcelain or ceramic crowns with no metal. This is quickly becoming the preferred choice for many dental patients for their restorations.

Ceramic crowns have a life-like translucency giving the most cosmetically pleasing results. But not all ceramic crowns are the same, so we will make recommendations based on your personal needs and desires.

Cerec Crowns (CEramic REContruction)

One type of ceramic crown that has benefited from new technology is a Cerec Crown, sometimes referred to as a one-visit crown. These are crowns milled in the office using highly automated digital CNC (Computer Numerical Control) machines.

The results are absolutely amazing and reduce the multiple visit procedure to one appointment.
[responsive_vid]One concern raised is durability compared to metal or porcelain on metal crowns. As with any modern technology, their shorter history is not as established as older dental restoration treatments.

However, those made out of one of the modern manufactured dental ceramics do not suffer from this drawback as much. Mountain River Dental will always make recommendations most appropriate for your complete care dentistry.

Metal, Ceramic, and Porcelain Crown Cost Comparison

How much do dental crowns cost? – Here are estimates of the price you might pay to have a dental crown made for a tooth. As you can see, there are a several different types of crowns (gold, porcelain, etc…) that can be placed.

Notice that the comparative cost of each type of crown does not vary drastically. So if your dentist feels the construction or appearance of one type will create a better looking, better fitting or more durable final restoration, then for the relatively small cost difference involved, it’s probably a great idea to follow their recommendation.

Don’t forget to factor in your time. One appointment is always going to cost less than two or more. This makes newer one-visit Cerec Crowns today’s preferred choice for many dental restorations.
